Lotte Spanoghe & Guillaume Domain

Lotte Spanoghe is a veterinarian and PhD student at the Small Animal Reproduction Department at Ghent University. Her research focuses on the vaginal microbiome of female dogs. She compares healthy animals with dogs suffering from vaginitis and investigates the influence of mating, insemination, and antibiotic use on bacterial balance and fertility. In addition to her research work, Lotte is also active in the clinic, where she deals with various aspects of reproductive care for dogs and cats.

Guillaume Domain studied veterinary medicine at the University of Liège before specializing in reproduction at Ghent University. He is a Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction and obtained a PhD on the improvement of techniques for freezing dog sperm.
He currently works as a clinician in the reproduction department at Ghent University, where he is involved in training students and conducting research into fertility assessment and the use of frozen semen to support breeding programs.

The Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction, and Population Medicine (DI08) at Ghent University houses the Small Animal Reproduction Service. This service focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders in dogs and cats, as well as breeding guidance. Our activities include cycle monitoring in bitches, artificial insemination, semen analysis and freezing techniques, and a wide range of reproductive healthcare services for small pets.
