Stefaan Ribbens & Gaëtan De Gryse

Stefaan graduated as a veterinarian in 2003, specializing in ruminants. After his studies, he joined the Department of Reproduction, Obstetrics, and Farm Animal Medicine (Ghent University) and worked in the field, where he obtained his doctorate. Since 2011, Stefaan has been working as a ruminant health care veterinarian at DGZ. In this position, he is responsible for the IBR and BVD program and represents DGZ in various working groups with the government and the agricultural sector. Since 2016, Stefaan has been chairman of the Association for Epidemiology and Economics.

Gaëtan De Gryse graduated as a veterinarian from Ghent University in 2015. Immediately afterwards, he began his academic career as a doctoral student under the supervision of Professor Nauwynck, unraveling the pathogenesis of the white spot syndrome virus in shrimp.
In 2021, he took up the position of head of the national reference laboratory for enzootic viral diseases in ruminants in Belgium (Sciensano). These include BoHV-1, BVDV, bovine leukosis virus, SRLV (Maedi-visna/CAEV) and peste des petits ruminants.

Animal Health Care Flanders (DGZ for short) is a non-profit association run by and for livestock farmers. The 170 employees of DGZ focus on the following core activities: identification and registration, veterinary laboratory tests, and animal health care. The organization is managed by a governing body. This body is composed of 12 livestock farmers active in the Flemish region and proportionally distributed across the three main sectors, namely ruminants, poultry, and pigs.

Sciensano is a scientific institution and the federal research center for public health, animal health, and food safety in Belgium.
